An Evening with The Jason Yeager Trio
March 15, 2011
Ruminations is the title of the Jason Yeager Trio’s sterling new jazz CD on Greg Osby’s own record label, Inner Circle Music. Its upcoming March 1st release will be celebrated with “An Evening with The Jason Yeager Trio” at the Regattabar in the Charles Hotel, One Bennett Street in Cambridge, at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, March 15. The Jason Yeager Trio will make its debut Regattabar appearance! The trio features Jason Yeager on piano, Tal Gamlieli on bass and Michael Gleichman on drums. This performance will also include special guests Aubrey Johnson on vocals, Mike Tucker on tenor sax and Vivek Patel on flugelhorn. Tickets at $16.00 can be purchased now on line at http://www.regattabarjazz.com or by calling: 617-395-7757. The Regattabar is wheelchair accessible.
Ruminations features a myriad of jazz styles and moods, including the Argentine groove "chacarera" on two tracks, the unique and powerful vocal work of singer Aubrey Johnson on Jason's composition "Inner Journey," and a string quartet on the final cut, "Lullaby for a Better World." On this piece, Jason took on the challenging task of composing for both string quartet [Catherine Bent and the Sweet Spot Strings] and jazz trio (piano, bass and drums)--something that comes off with excellent results, capturing the best of both the trio and the string quartet and allowing the parts of all seven musicians to communicate with one another. And, while the album is centered around the Jason Yeager Trio, two pieces, "Dos Familias" and "Uprising" seemed to call for an expanded quintet format, so Jason added the great Mike Tucker on tenor saxophone and the inimitable Vivek Patel on flugelhorn.
