The Footlight Club in Jamaica Plain will perform the rock opera “Rent” starting April 1 and running through April 16. Based on Puccini’s opera "La boheme,""Rent" tells the story of young artists and musicians struggling under the black cloud of HIV/AIDS while living in Manhattan’s East Village in the late 1980s and early 1990s.       We saw this production Saturday night and it was above and beyond anything we have seen in the greater Boston area. The set design was beautiful, the music was great. The cast was phenomenal, each... Expand

      We saw this production Saturday night and it was above and beyond anything we have seen in the greater Boston area. The set design was beautiful, the music was great. The cast was phenomenal, each lead brought their own energy and it was genuinely entertaining to watch their stories progress (even after all these years). The actor and actress who played "Collins" and "Mimi" were extraordinary. The sound team needs to fix the microphone issues but once they get it figured out I'd call this professional grade theater.
