Don't miss the groundbreaking 25th Anniversary Season of selected original ballets by New England's most celebrated dance-maker, Jose Mateo. Beauty Strange features some of Mateo's darkest and most complex works. Follow the alluring talles of a maniacal balletomane who abducts the object of his desire, a woman who confronts her suitor and triumphs over her inner demons, and four couples that find different ways to reconcile the unspoken tensions of their partnerships.

Beauty Strange features audience favorite House of Ballet (1993), a multi-layered work that juxtaposes different balletic styles in a narrative about the exploits of an obsessed balletomane, set to Russian composer Alfre Schnittke's Gogol Suite. Dark Profiles (2001) explores the range of emotional intensity in Beethoven's Fugue in B Flat and tells the story of a tormented woman whose insistence on the truth of her own reality creates tension with the object of her lustful desire. Timeless Attractions (2010), features, four discrete pas de deux that exemplify a common struggle to reconcile conflicting emtotions and impulses to Argentine composer Alberto Ginastera's String Quartet #2.

Enjoy a thrilling theater experience like no other with cabaret-style seating, close-up view of the dancers, and cocktails during the show. Each work is customized for the company's gloirous 5000 square foot Sanctuary Theater in Harvard Square for an intimate experience unlike any other in dance performance.
