March 7 - April 18, 2011
Ever wonder how love, tragedy and triumph seem to come alive on stage? Do you fancy the works of David Mamet or Doug Wright? Whether you aspire to have your work debut on Broadway, or just want to improve your own stories, the Boston Center for Adult Education’s (BCAE) Playwriting Essentials with Walt McGough is the perfect place to discover or hone your style and language.
Beginning on Monday, March 7th, 2011 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM, the class will examine theatrical elements such as character, plot and conflict, and how to incorporate them into a script. Successful Boston- and Chicago-based playwright Walt McGough will help students develop a handful of ten-minute plays. Various creative assignments will help the class explore the fundamentals of dramatic writing, and discover what it means to tell a story on stage. During the final class, students will have the chance to hear their own work read and interpreted by professional actors from the Boston area.
Students may use their work for portfolios or to submit to contests and theaters around the country.
