If you missed Les 7 doigts’ triumphant celebration of the human mind and body, there’s another chance to witness the stunning feats of these circus trailblazers at ArtsEmerson this summer. The staggeringly talented young performers of PSY each have their own peculiar modern malady along with an amazing set of heart-stopping, death-defying circus skills to match — including aerial ropes, trapeze and breathtaking acrobatics.

      We were visiting Boston, and decided to get 1/2 price tickets after seeing the video clip online. I am glad we did not pay full price. We were disappointed that the show was not more like the video... Expand

      We were visiting Boston, and decided to get 1/2 price tickets after seeing the video clip online. I am glad we did not pay full price. We were disappointed that the show was not more like the video clip, although second half of the show was better than the first. Several of the acts were too long and got monotonous, like the juggling and trapeze, as well as the music. We thought the best acts were the couple doing the their routine on the pole, and the male acrobat being launched off the board. Collapse

      My favorite part was when they dropped or slid down a pole twenty feet, especially when they did it in Tandem. It was part of a story about sleeping and it took place inside a house.

      I've always been skeptical of Cirque du Soleil type presentations because I don't usually appreciate the themes, story lines, and vignettes that accompany what I really like... the "tricks," or acts.... Expand

      I've always been skeptical of Cirque du Soleil type presentations because I don't usually appreciate the themes, story lines, and vignettes that accompany what I really like... the "tricks," or acts. But PSY was able to include the theme of the mental illness / psychiatry to lend the acts a bit of background without distracting from them. The first act set up the theme of "psy," which each acrobat having their own mental disorder for which they needed therapy. But it was the second act that blew me away in terms of the performance, especially the use of the German Wheel, which I had never seen before (youtube it). The lead hand-balancer was incredible, too, and the mask costumes reminded me of my favorite scenes from the Hiyao Miyazaki animated film, "Spirited Away." All in all, a wonderful performance, especially with a half-price BosTix ticket! :) Strongly recommended. Collapse

      As someone who has seen Cirque du Soleil every time it is in town, I was intrigued by PSY, and it did NOT disappoint. In fact, it's a fresh rendition of the acrobatic performance fueled by imagination. Whereas Cirque structures its performances around childhood wonder, PSY brings a maturity to the role that imagination plays in our lives. The characters are real, relatable people who might actually be yourself or be your friends – who act out both the dark and the charming that our humanity has to offer. And the stunning feats of acrobatics are pretty cool too. Collapse
