D'Anna Fortunato - Gala Vocal Chamber Music Concert
April 5, 2011
Great artists give free concerts at New England Conservatory—simply because they teach here.
In honor of former NEC President Gunther Schuller's 85th Birthday, D'Anna Fortunato presents an evening of "vocal chamber music of our time." This performance will feature music composed by Gunther Schuller, John Harbison, Mohammed Fairouz, Andrew List and John Greer.
Fortunato, an NEC faculty member and favorite of Boston audiences whose festival appearances include Tanglewood and Berlin's Spectrum Festival, brings together guest speakers and musicians to celebrate the composer.
The evening begins at 7:00 with a pre-concert talk focused around "Text Setting and Composing for Vocal Chamber Music." Poet Lloyd Schwartz is the moderator as Mr. Schuller, Mr. Harbison, Mr. Fairouz, Mr. Greer, and Mr. List are panelists. The concert begins at 8 pm, featuring Reneè Krimsier on flute, Rhonda Rider on cello, and John Greer on piano. The chamber ensemble is comprised of James Buswell, violin; James Orleans, bass; Steven Jackson, clarinet; Richard Svaboda, bassoon; Steve Emery, trumpet; Norma Bolter, trombone; and Ann Hobson Pilot, harp. The ensemble is conducted by Yoon Jae Lee.
