With a stunning book by James Lapine and a brilliant score by Stephen Sondheim, this Tony and Pulitzer winning work is a masterpiece of modern musical theatre. Inspired by one of the most iconic paintings of all all time – Georges Seurat’s “Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte” – Sunday explores essential questions of connection, progress, and the power of creation. Act One, set in 1880’s Paris, follows Seurat’s life as he struggles to create his masterwork. In Act Two, set more than a hundred years later, George’s great-grandson, also an artist, faces similar challenges and looks to the past to find what it takes to “move on”.
