Leading up to the May 27th release of Terrence Malick’s highly anticipated new film The Tree of Life, ArtsEmerson reviews three of the four films that have established the director as one of the most distinctive, lyrical voices to have emerged in late 20th century American cinema. Badlands, Malick’s directorial debut, is a potent character study of two juvenile psychopaths: Kit (Sheen), a James Dean-obsessed, violently impulsive anti-hero and Holly (Spacek), his vacantly detached girlfriend-accomplice.
