Opera Treemonisha at Roxbury Center for Arts April 29-May 1, 2011
April 29 - May 1, 2011
Completed in 1910 by the “King of Ragtime,” Treemonisha was not fully staged until the 1970s. The musical styles speak directly to modern audiences—from heartfelt arias to rousing ragtime choruses. This production of Treemonisha is the Boston premiere of the opera.
The cast includes six adults and thirty teenagers. The teens auditioned at a number of Boston schools and were selected not only for their vocal skills, but also for their willingness to commit to the project, work hard and take artistic risks. For many it is their first time participating in a staged production. Rehearsals take place on Fridays from 4:00 - 9:00 and during school vacations. Mssng Lnks Founder, Sam Martinborough is the Stage Director for this production.
