Going back to his Cuban roots, Mateo transports us to this mystical culture with a uniquely contemporary lens. The culminating event of the 25th Anniversary Season with only 9 performances, and a highly anticipated premiere ballet, these shows promise to sell quickly.

CUBANIA features a premiere ballet set to an original score by New York City composer (and Cuban native), Aruán Ortiz. The concert also includes Escape (2004) to music by Leo Brouwer. A composer and guitarist, Brouwer is also well-known for many film scores including A Walk in the Clouds and Like Water for Chocolate. The concert also includes Ayer Pasado (2004) meaning “The Day Before Yesterday” to music by Manuel Saumell, a romantic composer considered the father of national Cuban music, and composer of 58 Contradanzas for piano.

Enjoy a thrilling theater experience like no other with cabaret-style seating, close-up view of the dancers, and cocktails during the show. Each work is customized for the company’s glorious 5,000 square foot Sanctuary Theatre in Harvard Square for an intimate experience unlike any other in dance performance.
