Theodore E. Stebbins Jr., Curator of American Art, Division of European and American Art, Harvard Art Museums
Central to student life at Harvard University, Harvard Yard is a landscape shaped by some of America’s most notable examples of 18th- and 19th-century purpose-built architecture. Beginning with the third-oldest building on campus, Holden Chapel (1744) and moving through the 19th century with Charles Bulfinch’s University Hall (1813–15) and H. H. Richardson’s masterpiece Sever Hall (1878–80), Ted Stebbins will provide an art-historical context for the key elements of the Yard’s architectural ensemble.
Participation is free, but space is limited and registration is required.
Harvard Treasures is a members-only series that explores the university’s architectural riches and art holdings beyond the museums.
