Raphael Xavier, a break dancer for over two decades, shifts and plays with the rhythms of rap, break dancing, and narrative to draw parallels between the performer’s body and the stage itself, in this inventive work spiked with humor.

Raphael Xavier is a co-founder of olive Dance Theater in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is also an alumnus of Rennie Harris Pure-movement and currently still performs and works with the RHPM creating new works for Harris' second company RHAW. His work has been performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC; Dance Theater Workshop in New York City; the Wilma Theatre and Painted Bridge in Philadelphia; REDCAT in Los Angeles; among other venues in the United States and internationally. Raphael received a Folk & Traditional Arts Fellowship from Philadelphia's Institute for Cultural Partnerships in 2008, and was a master artist in their apprenticeship program the same year. Working in a variety of fields including music, photography, and film, Raphael continues to learn and recreate new ways to expand the art form's vocabulary.
