    One of Mali's most beloved singers, Oumou Sangare returns to Boston for the first time in over a decade. She has a gift for elevating traditional music to subtle, nuanced, contemporary pop. She is recognized as the "songbird of Wassoulou," the region of southern Mali known for its bluesy rhythms and melodies. With a gloriously clear alto voice, Oumou Sangare is more than just a powerful, expressive singer. Her forceful polyrhythmic grooves and call-and-response songs pack a powerful message asking for change and speaking out against the struggles of women and children in Africa today.
