Concerts in the Cloister
Presented by Parish of the Epiphany, Episcopal
June 9 - July 21, 2011
Four exciting concerts, each with an international flavor, will be presented in this summer’s Concerts in the Cloister musical offering at the Parish of the Epiphany in Winchester. The 2011 --- and forty-second --- season of this annual music festival is titled “Winchester and the World.” and features four outstanding musical groups with both a Winchester and an international connection.
All concerts are on Thursday evenings. The Boston Saxophone Quartet, directed by Peter Cokkinias, will begin the series on June 9 with a program of American jazz standards. Kinan Azmeh’s City Band from New York City presents highly original music combining jazz, classical and Middle Eastern influences on June 23. Two weeks later, July 7, Romantic German chamber music will be performed by the Talroze / Vavilov / Gjoni Trio. Finishing the series on July 21 is the pulsing music of Afro-Caribbean women’s ensemble Zili Mizik, in a concert designed for families, children included.
Concerts are at 7:30 (6:30 for the last one) in the lovely open-air Cloister garden at the Epiphany Church, 70 Church Street in Winchester. Tables will be available for picnicking beforehand and ice cream sundaes will be served afterwards for a perfect summer evening’s pleasure.
Proceeds benefit the music program at Epiphany Church, and sponsors are encouraged. For just $100, sponsors will receive 8 concert tickets good for any combination of concerts, and mention in the programs. For more information, please contact the church office at 781 729 1922.
