Jamaica Plain Concert Series presents the Laszlo Gardony Quartet
Presented by Jamaica Plain Concert Series
July 7, 2011
The Laszlo Gardony Quartet will perform music from Gardony's new CD, "Signature Time" (Sunnyside). The CD features originals and reworkings of Beatles and jazz classics, paying tribute to African music's profound influence on today's musical genres. “The lush palette of today's music owes a lot to the birthplace of culture and sound – Africa,” Gardony says. “The album is an acknowledgment of how the many genres which draw upon the African musical heritage have enriched my own cultural experience and helped shape my voice so that I can speak to what is relevant to me today.” Laszlo Gardony (piano/composer/arranger); Stan Strickland (sax, flute, vocals, kalimba); Yoron Israel (drums); John Lockwood (bass).
