Anaïs Mitchell & Hadestown
November 18, 2011
Add Review/Comment
Anaïs (uh-NAY-iss) Mitchell writes intimate songs, richly detailed like short stories. Her many musical influences come together in Hadestown, an epic folk opera that retells the Orpheus myth. From its opening notes, Hadestown is packed with irresistible melodies and the kind of plainspoken poetry that is Mitchell’s songwriting hallmark. The Hadestown album was performed by a dream team of modern indie-folk/rock artists, including Ani DiFranco, Justin Vernon/Bon Iver, Greg Brown and Ben Knox Miller of The Low Anthem, among others. Mitchell performs Hadestown with musical director Michael Chorney and the Hadestown orchestra, with special guests to be announced. You never know who will show up.
