Smudge - a new play by Rachel Axler

The Salem Theatre Company will present the Ghostlight Theatre Company production of Smudge, a new play by Rachel Axler, as part of STC’s Music & More Series. The production is directed by Salem resident and Salem State University alum, Devon Scalisi and will open Thursday, June 16.

Smudge, written by Emmy Award winner Rachel Axler (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Parks and Recreation) is a dark comedy about the changing face of the American family and the limits of love and cheesecake, as a hopeful young couple gives birth to a “smudge”. In 2008, director Devon Scalisi was invited by the Eugene O’Neill Foundation to participate in a writers conference with the playwright, assisting in the development of the final version of the script. “The greatest part of the experience was seeing how the first audiences responded with such palpable, heartfelt emotion to this ultra-dark comedy that’s quick and witty, but ultimately, very full of hope,” explains Scalisi.

The play is set for a June 16 - July 9 run at the STC Theater, 90 Lafayette Street in Salem. Performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are available online now at www.salemtheatre.com or can be reserved for pick up at the box office by calling 978-790-8546, or emailing info@salemtheatre.com. Online ticketing ends 24 hours in advance of each performance.
