Add Review/Comment
An icon in his native country, Cuban singer-songwriter Carlos Varela is often dubbed "Cuba's Bob Dylan." Varela's music combines Cuba's Nueva Trova tradition of richly poetic, socially conscious lyrics with an innovative fusion of folk, rock, and pop, together with traditional Cuban son and guajira rhythms. Varela has been drawing thousands of passionate fans to his shows for more than 20 years, even when his songs have been banned from Cuban radio. A major figure in Latin American music, he has shared the stage with Bonnie Raitt, Ruben Blades, Sting, Los Van Van, Silvio Rodriguez and Jackson Browne, who is presenting Varela's eight-city U.S. tour, and will be on hand to introduce the artist.
