After a critically-acclaimed U.S. debut at Jacob's Pillow in 2007, Switzerland's Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève returns to open the Festival in this highly anticipated engagement. In the U.S. premiere of French choreographer Joëlle Bouvier's Romeo and Juliet, Ballet Genève's twenty-two "sleek, skillful dancers" perform this inspired contemporary ballet full of drama, grace, and style.

Through contemporary, lyrical choreography, audiences will rediscover classic Romeo and Juliet tableaus, including the Capulet ball, the balcony scene, and passionate duels in the streets of Verona.The beloved story of Shakespeare's star-crossed lovers unfolds in joyous ensemble scenes and romantic duets, with brilliantly reinvented sets and music from Sergei Prokofiev's sweeping classical score.
