Artists have looked to animals for inspiration since prehistoric times. Students desiring to improve their ability to depict animals and to find a meaningful way of expressing themselves with animal imagery will find this class compelling. For the first half of the week we will build our skills drawing animals on-site at natural history museums, zoos and aquariums investigating the anatomical structure and gestural movement of a variety of beasts. Our time will then transition into the studio where we will use our images and collected data to create larger drawings of multiple animal configurations incorporating habitat and personal metaphorical content. Artists of all levels of experience are welcome.

The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston’s week-long intensives allow you to fully immerse yourself in artmaking. Register now for Continuing Education July courses.
