In this intensive workshop students will use Adobe Photoshop CS to explore the multi-faceted art of the photographic composite to develop an individual style. Explorations may range from combining two or more exposures of the same scene to control contrast to incorporating visual materials into existing images to create dreamlike montages. We will explore Photoshop's capabilities for image layering and montage, experiment with painting and layering tools, learn new techniques, technical shortcuts and use a range of methods for making global and local adjustments to images. Other topics will include: selection tools, masking, adjustment layers, layer groups, layer organization, blending modes, image transformation tools (including Free Transform and Warp), Smart Objects that preserve flexibility, simple collages based on image overlays and multi-layered creations woven from various sampled sources. Prerequisite: Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop.

The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston’s week-long intensives allow you to fully immerse yourself in artmaking. Register now for Continuing Education July courses.
