2011 Tchaikovsky Piano Competition Winner on Tour - A Special Evening
March 17, 2012
The iconic International Tchaikovsky Competition, every four years in Moscow, was first held in 1958. The winner of the first piano competition was Van Cliburn, who went on to achieve the status of an idol to world-wide audiences. Van Cliburn performed at the 102nd Worcester Music Festival in 1961 before a sold out house of 3,200 at the Memorial Auditorium.
30 pianists will compete in this year's International Tchaikovsky Competition to take place between June 14th and July 2nd in Moscow under the chairmanship of Valery Gergiev. The winner will perform in Mechanics Hall as part of a tour, presented as part of the 152nd Worcester Music Festival, and will be followed by a Russian-themed gala reception in Washburn Hall to honor the extraordinary young musician who will be launching a career and gaining international prominence...who will it be? Join us for a very special evening.
