Once on this Island, Jr.
August 12, 2011
Directed by Ilyse Robbins and John O’Neil, 23 musical theatre students, ranging in ages from 7 to 13, will perform, "Once on this Island, Jr." on the main stage at Wheelock Family Theatre. This highly original adaptation of the popular fairy tale "The Little Mermaid" tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel is returned to his people and his own side of the island, the fantastical gods who rule the island, guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love.
The Advanced Performance Intensive class at Wheelock Family Theatre provides an opportunity for youngsters who have stage experience to focus on voice, movement and acting exercises, as well as learning about lights, sound, costumes, sets and props. In this intensive, students have had a comprehensive “summer stock” experience and put together this musical in two weeks.
