    ArtisTalk: Vera Lutter

Presented by at Harvard Art Museums/Arthur M. Sackler Museum

    ArtisTalk: Vera Lutter

In the 1990s, Vera Lutter began to transform rooms into large pinhole cameras in order to create wall-size negative images of architectural subjects. Her ambitious and innovative engagement with this process resonates with Lyonel Feininger’s exploration of the stark contrasts and otherworldly effects of the negative print, which he began to explore at the Bauhaus in the late 1920s.

ArtisTalk is a new six-part series of lectures by and conversations with some of today’s most thought-provoking artists. Artistic practice is an essential form of intellectual inquiry and cultural critique. Contemporary artists have much to say and much to teach about the complex world in which we live.

The spring series will feature three contemporary photographers whose work recalls different aspects of Lyonel Feininger’s photography, which will be the subject of a special exhibition in the Sackler Museum March 30–June 2, 2012

Limited complimentary parking at Broadway Garage, 7 Felton Street.

This series was made possible in part by generous support from the Emily Rauh Pulitzer and Joseph Pulitzer Jr. Fund for Modern and Contemporary Art, Harvard Art Museums.

The M. Victor Leventritt Fund was established through the generosity of the wife, children, and friends of the late M. Victor Leventritt, Harvard Class of 1935. The purpose of the fund is to present outstanding scholars of the history and theory of art to the Harvard and Greater Boston communities.
