Invisible Cities (Floating World Projects)
August 6 - October 22, 2011
Three American artists and three artists from Turkey have been collaborating on a body of work that explores the many aspects of cross-cultural identity. Over the course of two residencies, the group has executed pieces made by silkscreening images onto layered glass panels. The resulting works are powerful graphic collages that allude to architecture, poetry and history. The collaboration grew out of a partnership between the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston and Mimar Sinan University in Istanbul. Exhibitors are Turkish artists; Ayse Balyemez, Hande Büyükatll & Gülfidan Özmen and American artists; Oben Abright, James McLeod & Leo Tecosky.
Invisible Cities represents the visual arts component of Floating World Projects, an arts organization that aims to develop and sustain cross-cultural exchange through artistic collaborations.
