    Sunday, October 2 at 2pm

Remis Auditorium, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

These provocative preludes to the operas in BLO’s season take place at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and employ a variety of art forms such as film, visual arts, theater and music to highlight a theme in the opera.

Lady Macbeth’s sleepwalking scene is one of Shakespeare’s and later Verdi’s most vivid theatrical creations. Join us to explore its dramatic richness with performers and literary and musical specialists. Other operatic versions besides Verdi’s will be performed and differing cinematic takes on the scene by Welles, Polanski, and Kurosawa will be explored.

    But wait … There’s more!

Join us for the Signature Reception immediately following each Signature Series presentation in the Museum of Fine Arts’ highly acclaimed BRAVO Restaurant. Mingle with the performers from our presentation while sipping cocktails and sampling tempting hors d'oeuvres inspired by each opera at this lively afternoon reception.

Tickets are $50 per person (and are sold separately from the presentation ticket). The receptions often sell out - so purchase your tickets in advance!

The dead never really die in Boston Lyric Opera’s exceedingly dark and psychologically driven new staging of Verdi’s “Macbeth.’’ They haunt, shadow, and torment the living - quite literally - walking alongside them, floating above them, and looming in their presence as giant totems out of some nightmare drawn from the primordial recesses of the brain. Before the curtain goes up, you can see where things are heading. Bodies of the dead, tightly bound, hang by their feet from the rafters. Collapse
