Clara Bery (with opener Truezoos)
September 17, 2011
The Salem Theatre Company Music & More Series will present Maine singer-songwriter Clara Berry on Saturday, September 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the STC Theater – 90 Lafayette Street in Salem, MA. Boston’s The Truezoos will open for Miss Berry.
Emerging singer-songwriter Clara Berry of Maine brings a youthful perspective to the New England songwriter scene. Clara began at the age of 13 and developed a mature, melancholy and evocative sound. At 17, Clara was named one of "10 Maine Bands to Watch" by the Portland Press Herald. Since then she has played at a variety of venues throughout New England, and has opened for Mindy Smith and Cheryl Wheeler.
In 2008 Clara released her first CD Wave to critical acclaim. Portland Magazine called it "sparkling and dark" while the Kennebec Journal said "As always, I'm impressed with the diversity and quality of Maine-based musicians and Clara Berry is definitely one of the best."
Last summer she released her five-song EP Creature to even greater reviews, the Portland Phoenix calling it a "grab-you-by-the-throat introduction" and the Portland Press Herald said, "When a chanteuse so young can package baroque turns in neat pop packages, folks take notice."
