Howard Hawks’ masterpiece is one of the most deliriously paced Hollywood comedies ever made, driven by a charging engine fueled by the yin-yang of Grant-Hepburn’s sexual repression-aggression. Grant’s a staid paleontologist on the cusp of marriage and the completion of a four-year project assembling the skeleton of a two-story Brontosaurus. Hepburn’s the heiress whose “intricate scatterbrained schemes entrap the deep thinker in adventures that reveal his untapped humor and virility” (Richard Brody).
