Thea Hopkins (main act)
Slim Chance Acoustic (opener)
Thea Hopkins, Boston’s well-known performing songwriter, will be the main act at the Friday September 23 Coffeehouse at First Church in Belmont. Thea describes her music as “American short story folk”, with memorable narratives. The legendary folk musicians Peter, Paul & Mary have included Thea’s songs on their recent albums and in their PBS-TV career retrospective. Thea’s creativity has been recognized by awards at the Boston Folk Festival, the International Songwriting Contest and ASCAP PLUS. Her cultural heritage as a member of the Wampanoag Tribe of Aquinnah on Martha’s Vineyard is reflected in some of her songs.
The evening’s opening act is Slim Chance Acoustic, featuring Seth Asser on guitar, mandolin, harmonica, Ray Dunn on bass, and Meghan Larson as lead vocalist. Their repertoire includes Acoustic Blues, Rock and Folk music.
The Second Friday Coffeehouse is greater Boston's original all-benefit coffeehouse. Proceeds from the show benefit Renewal House, an organization that provides shelter and job training for women and children who are in transition from domestic abuse situations to independent living.
