    Begins October 4, 2011
    Instructor: Helen Schroeder

In this creative movement class, we will wiggle our bodies to the beat while building vocabulary and understanding of concepts such as up, down, over, under, fast, slow, and more. Learning about our bodies and how we can use them to move and mimic will allow children to understand and explore how objects move in space. Songs, poems, and rhymes will help to build memory, hand-eye coordination, and awareness of rhythm and repetition. We will explore these skills through singing, clapping, stomping, and using percussion instruments to make our own rhythm band! Children will learn to work together, follow directions, and experiment with movement as we make our own wind and weather, dance with scarves and balloons, blow feathers, bubbles, and of course wiggle our bodies!

    Ages: 2.5 – 4.5 + Adult
    8 Thursdays 9:30 – 10:30am
    Begins October 6, 2011
    Instructor: Helen Schroeder
    NO CLASS: November 24, 2011

Through this dramatic play class, our imaginations will run wild as we are introduced to a variety of characters through stories read aloud and puppet theater activities that will encourage communication and verbal skills. Adorned with costumes, we will act out cause and effect scenarios from stories to predict and understand how others may act or feel in various situations. Children will be encouraged to build their self-confidence, collaboration, and conflict resolution skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. Children will also be given the chance to learn about and act out different roles that people do and jobs that make up our community as our space transforms into a toy store, animal clinic, community garden, and more! Through their active participation in the class, parent and caregivers will learn first hand the crucial role of imaginative play in promoting healthy development.

    Ages: 2.5 – 4.5 + Adult
    8 Wednesdays 9:30 – 10:30am
    Begins October 5, 2011
    Instructor: Helen Schroeder

Art meets science as we explore the senses of sight, sound, touch, and smell that encourage preschoolers to explore their environment and develop descriptive language and inquiry skills. By engaging in sensory experiences rich with descriptive vocabulary, children will learn to make predictions and comparisons by exploring materials such as sand, rice, water, dirt, play dough, feely goop, oobleck, ice, and other natural materials. Children will not only be exploring new sensations but developing dexterity and fine motor skills as we learn to squeeze, stretch, cut, roll, pinch, scoop, and manipulate our materials. Great for curious artists!
