What happens when Boston’s 1971 International Woman’s Day marchers occupy a Harvard-owned building to dramatize the need for a women’s center, on land sought by the largely African-American Riverside community for affordable housing? This film tells the story of one of the few takeovers by women for women, embodying many of the hopes, glories, conflicts and tensions of Second Wave feminism. How was this action transformative for the participants and the surrounding community and what were its lasting legacies? Join us for the film screening and the discussion afterward.
