The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), will welcome visitors to its annual Fall Open House on Monday, October 10, 2011, from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. In conjunction with the Fall Open House, the Museum will present a free screening of Christian Marclay’s 24-hour video, The Clock, starting at 4 p.m. on Sunday and running through the Open House. (This will be the last opportunity for Bostonians to see, for free, the video in its entirety—all 24 hours.) Marclay’s masterwork, The Clock, is an award-winning 24-hour video made up of thousands of film fragments that show the passage of time. Images range from watches to clocks to bits of dialogue, synchronized to tell the accurate time at the current moment. The MFA has extended the run of the video, which will be on view in the Loring Gallery during regular Museum hours through December 31 at 4:45 p.m. Another highlight of the free Fall Open House is the new special exhibition, Degas and the Nude, organized by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Musée d'Orsay, Paris. Presentation of the exhibition in Boston is made possible by Bank of America, and the exhibition is supported by an indemnity from the Federal Council on the Arts and the Humanities. Additionally, this family-friendly free day will include performances by Boston Ballet dancers and a duo from Berklee College of Music, as well as family art-making activities in the galleries and tours. It is made possible, in part, by a grant from The Boston Foundation.
