Batya Gur, Israel’s beloved and first mystery writer, held up a mirror to Israeli society. In this compilation of previously unseen, unedited interviews filmed before her death in 2005, Gur is self-effacing, humorous and tough. She wrote mysteries not to be a pioneer, but because a detective novel is “less pretentious” than a literary work.
