Raks Nativity: A Christmas Pageant with Middle-Eastern Dance
Presented by Ahlam Selene Dance Company at Cambridge Family YMCA Theatre
December 11, 2011
Raks Nativity is a new take on the Christmas Pageant. While following the original plot, the scenes are illustrated with Middle Eastern Dance influences. Mary is visited by the glorious Archangel Gabriel. The shepherds dance a traditional cane dance from Egypt, while their sheep cavort in the fields. The three magi make their journey to the court music of Moorish Spain, while the little drummer boy plays his heart out for the Holy Family and their well-wishers. It's the Christmas Pageant as you've never seen it before. In the Christmas spirit, the show benefits a charity for children, given the connection of gift-giving and a family in need. The show benefits Cradles to Crayons, whose mission is to provide, free of charge, low-income and homeless children from birth to age 12 with the basic essentials they need to be safe, warm, ready to learn, and valued. All profits from this event will be donated to the charity.
