Directed by Laurel Nakadate, Appearing in Person. With Christina Kolozsvary, Julie Potratz, Dave Cloud
USA 2010, digital video, color, 100 min
Framed by discomforting camerawork and floating along the strange, desolate surfaces of suburban south Florida, two teenage girls break away from their bored antics and alienated homes to embark upon a special mission to Nashville. Jealousy, duplicity, and bizarre encounters accelerate the development of their ambiguous bond that continues to grow deeper and more dangerous. An extension of Nakadate’s confrontational installation and video work, The Wolf Knife cuts through trite notions of innocence and sexuality by uncomfortably stalking the girls’ inarticulate, aimless relationship with each other and with their voyeuristic onlookers, audience included.
