Orlandissimo: A Renaissance Prodigy
For his feats of composition and the beauty of his voice, Orlandus Lassus (1532-94) gained unparalleled fame at an early age. Convivium begins its year-long survey of Lassus’ polyphony with a winter program featuring work from his early career in Italy and the Low Countries, revealing a young composer steeped in the musical traditions of his homeland and with a penchant for adventurous harmonies. In addition to an early mass setting and excerpts from the Sybilline Prophecies, we include works by two of the major musical influences on the young composer, Clemens non Papa and Nicolas Gombert.
