Imagine the possibilities when nuanced, fluid, Indian-classical vocal lines meet a now soaring, now searching soprano saxophone and a rhythm section that mixes hard-driving grooves with subtle textures! In this performance, world-jazz veterans Natraj feature Indian classical vocal virtuoso Deepti Navaratna for an evening of exhilarating interplay and a contemporary approach to tradition-rooted Indian- and African-influenced music. “Natraj… The future of jazz... the future of world music… a spellbinding tapestry... a jazz hybrid of celebration and reflection,” extols the Times of India. In addition to special guest, Indian vocalist Deepti Navaratna, Natraj features saxophonist Phil Scarff, bassist Mike Rivard, tabla and multipercussion wizard Jerry Leake, and drummer Bertram Lehmann.
