Lord Nelson Mass
April 21, 2012
The centerpiece of our spring concert is Haydn’s Missa Angustiis, popularly known as the “Lord Nelson” Mass. The “Lord Nelson” Mass was written in a time of war and upheaval in Europe, and ends with grand plea for peace – as relevant in our time as it was in Haydn’s. Soloists are Sonja Tengblad soprano, Stephanie Kacoyanis alto, Michael Barrett tenor, and Paul Tipton bass. Also featured is the Jameson Chamber Orchestra.
Opening the program is an exquisite suite of pieces by early masters and modern genius:
Tarik O’Regan's Ipsa vivere (2007); two motets by Heinrich Schütz from his Cantiones Sacrae; and Josquin Desprez's Sanctus from Missa Gaudeamus.
