    The Lineup:

Zumix’s Jazz Week East begins with a soulful nod to the blues. It features a quintet of veteran Boston musicians with Rick Hammett, trumpet and tenor sax; Joe Bargar, keys and vocals; Ed Lucie, bass; Bobby "guitar" Gus, guitar; and Kenny Hadley on the drums. They’ve worked with Aretha, Stevie Wonder, Buddy Rich, and Otis Rush to name just a few. With influence from the likes of Ray Charles, Doctor John, and Professor Longhair, they will bring their dedication to the groove and a soulful sound to the Zumix stage Friday, April 27th starting at 8PM.
    Wednesday, May 2nd - 8:30-10:00pm

The acclaimed Nick Grondin Group presents its music as modern instrumental storytelling, inspired equally by rock, folk and contemporary jazz styles. Using a broad palette of sounds – guitar, piano, bass, drums, trumpet, saxophone and voice – they aspire to connect the listeners and performers through sharing a music that is rich on many levels, intellectual and emotional.

The group features some of the brightest young musicians in the Boston area, brought together by Down Beat and ASCAP composition award-winner, Nick Grondin.

Eastie Jazz Snapshot is a group assembled for weddings and events in East Boston such as Jazz Week East '10 concerts at the Atlantic Gallery and Cafe 303. This year we bring together music from the Beatles, Stevie Wonder and Wayne Shorter to share them from a jazz perspective. Brazilian rhythms and back beats provide texture for jazz harmonies and hits while allowing the melodies be soothing. We will feature drummer and percussionist Reagan Gibson, bassist Derek Van Wormer, Michael Carey on flute and saxophone. Also, there we'll have vocalist Jess Cooper and surprise guitarist that Zumix-ers will love.
    Friday, May 4th - 8:30pm

Marlene del Rosario sings and plays originals and jazz standards in an intimate trio of piano, guitar and acoustic bass. Accompanying her are Patrick Mottaz on guitar, and National Endowment for the Arts jazz awardee and Berklee professor, Dave Clark, on bass.

"Ms del Rosario draws you in with an uncanny grasp of the jazz, blues and soul idioms...Like Bill Evans and Miles Davis, the silences between the notes are always as emotionally telling as the words themselves." - UK jazz critic, John Stevenson (E-Jazz news)
    Sunday, May 6th - 6:00pm

Maverick Swing returns with swing dancing in East Boston. As part of Boston Jazz Week, ZUMIX and Maverick Swing are thrilled to present Shawn Hershey & The Fried Bananas!

6pm: Swing dance lesson with Brian & Kellian
7-10pm: Dancing with live music from Shawn Hershey & the Fried Bananas!
