Puppet Showplace Theatre presents: Puppets and Play-making in the Classroom

Calling all teachers! Have you ever wanted to incorporate puppetry into your classroom but not known where to begin? Now is your chance to discover how, with support from New England's puppet theatre!
Participants will learn how to use puppetry to facilitate character-based creative improvisation in the classroom, leading towards the development of scene-based dramatic scripts. In this step-by-step professional development series taught by experienced drama educator Brenda Huggins, participants will gain experience leading craft activities, exploring the basics of storytelling and dramaturgy, and instructing others in the fundamentals of puppet performance. Teachers will also learn fun theatre games and will have the opportunity to lead each other in these exercises. The "puppets and play-making" curriculum can be adapted for students in grades pre-K through 5, and can be used in both school and recreational settings.
