Celebrating DIY Artist Initiatives and Collectives - Opening Reception
Presented by Gallery at Porter Mill
August 1 - August 25, 2012
Beverly, MA - Sometimes artists need to take things into their own hands. Many times, people imagine artists live a solitary life, spending angst filled hours alone in their studio working hard to create the next masterpiece. What most artists really are doing though, is reaching out to other artists, banding together, and taking a whole new approach to “putting themselves out there.” Artist collectives and DIY (do-it-yourself) initiatives are growing ever popular as exhibiting in traditional, commercial galleries becomes more and more competitive, and consequently, less desirable. For the month of August, the Gallery at Porter Mill will highlight the efforts of two such collectives; those who have decided not to go it alone, but instead choose to celebrate their community and their fellow artists. Beverly based [Space] and Brooklyn based One Animal will be exhibiting concurrently in the Gallery at Porter Mill from August 1st – August 24th.
On Saturday, August 4th from 6:00pm – 8 :00pm enjoy refreshments and meet the artists during the opening celebration of this exciting exhibition.
On Saturday August 18th [Space] will be hosting “State of the Art Scene” from 6:00pm – 8:00pm, an in gallery conversation between artists, galleries and community members about what is happening in the local art scene, and how it can grow.
All events are free and open to the general public. The Gallery at Porter Mill is located at 95 Rantoul Street Beverly MA. Contact Bea Modisett at email@example.com for more information and additional gallery hours.
