"From the Margins to the Mainstream: Art and Disability Today" a talk byTom di Maria, Director of Creative Growth in Oakland, California, presented in conjunction with the opening of the exhibition Create at the Cantor Art Gallery. Create presents the work of twenty artists with developmental disabilities who have been active at one of three pioneering studios in California: Oakland’s Creative Growth Art Center, Creativity Explored in San Francisco, and NIAD Art Center in Richmond. Including painting, sculpture, drawing, prints, photography, and text-based art, Create reveals nearly three decades of remarkable work from these small but influential artistic communities.
