In the Age of Mozart
Presented by Grand Harmonie at Old South Church in Boston
September 16, 2012
Grand Harmonie presents our inaugural concert, a program of Harmoniemusik. You'll hear Mozart's Serenade in C minor K388 'Nachtmusik' and works by Antonio Salieri and Vicente Martin y Soler, called in his time the 'Valencian Mozart'. Beethoven's Eb Major octet, op.103, completes the program. The somber depth of the Mozart C minor serenade make it unlikely dinner music, as it is much more suited to an attentive audience. The sonority of the dramatic opening unisons advertise all that is needed for the warmth of sound a harmonie can produce. Salieri's trio for 2 oboes and bassoon is a bright sorbet on the other end of the musical spectrum. Delightfully sweet, it shows the playful side of the instruments. Beethoven's Eb major octet blends the characters of the ensemble as only he can.
