Making Evidence Matter: The Role of Science in US Policy

In recent years, a partisan political climate and noisy media landscape have created an environment in which science is easily drowned out by misinformation or manipulated by private interests. Meanwhile, our leaders grapple with some of the most complex and daunting problems in history, such as climate change, the spread of nuclear weapons, and transition to a clean energy economy. Kevin Knobloch, president of the Union of Concerned Scientists, will discuss how their Center for Science and Democracy works to restore the essential role of science, evidence-based knowledge, and constructive debate in US policymaking. Fortune magazine editor-at-large David Whitford will moderate this event. Co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Arlington.
