“…the antithesis of stuffy, over polished dance…The intimacy lends Mateo’s dynamic choreography a raw power that is compulsively watchable…”
Best of Boston Dance Performance 2011, Boston magazine “This is true ballet theater, since the performers act just as much as they dance.”
The Boston Herald
Jose Mateo, New England’s most celebrated dance-maker, opens the Company’s remarkable 27th Season with a concert of stunning original ballets – including a world premiere. Mysterious Arrangements features Mateo's acclaimed Time Beyond Time (2005), set to French composer Olivier Messiaen’s ‘Quartet for the End of Time’. The ballet portrays the profound pain silently shared by an ill-fated couple and their range of emotion through different dimensions of time. Dancers' Overture, set to Bach’s ‘Overture from Orchestral Suite #2 in B minor’, has not graced the stage since its premiere in 2001 at the Company’s debut performance at The Sanctuary Theatre. Mateo’s highly anticipated premiere will be the first of only two during the Season. Mysterious Arrangements offers a unique theater experience with an extraordinary close-up view of the dancers, reserved cabaret-style seating and cocktails during the show. The glorious Sanctuary Theatre is home to Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre and hailed as one of the area’s most spectacular performance spaces.
