Drag King 101 +Performance is your opportunity to explore the inner Drag King inside you AND have a chance to strut your stuff onstage! During this 6-week intensive we will explore the ins and outs of what makes a successful Drag King through gender illusion, costuming, physicality, character creation, acting technique, movement, and story development. This course culminates with each student creating their own performance piece to showcase at our Drag King Slam!

So, what’s a Drag King again?: Well, perhaps you’ve heard of a Drag Queen? Simply put, a Drag King is the counterpart – a performance critiquing the masculine character in society. The drag culture at large generally injects politics, pop-culture commentary, sexuality, orientation, identity and gender exploration into the center of much of its material… While we each develop our own POV on the art form, we’ll also touch on: Bio Queens and Drag Queens, High Femme Performance, Transgender Identity vs. Gender Performance, Queer and Straight: identity/behavior/orientation, and so much more… This workshop is open to people of all gender identities who are interested in performing as a King.
