"Stoned Soul Picnic," "Eli's Coming," "Wedding Bell Blues"....Shepley Metcalf sings these hits and lesser-known gems by Laura Nyro, "one of the most important singer/songwriters of the '60s and '70s" (Rolling Stone). Pianist Ron Roy, Metcalf's musical partner, joins her at the keys.
The Boston Globe describes Metcalf as an “excellent cabaret/jazz singer who is foremost a sensitive interpreter of lyrics." A longtime Nyro fan, Metcalf decided last year to depart from her American Songbook repertoire to explore Nyro's work, which ranges from mega-hits (“And When I Die”) recorded by the music industry’s big names to intricate and powerful songs Nyro performed solo at the piano. Metcalf debuted the show In May to a sold-out room at Boston's Scullers Jazz Club.
