Saturday, September 22, 2012 8pm $15 at door Synopsis: Following an afternoon performance of Hamlet, William Shakespeare’s friend and the preeminent actor of his time, Richard Burbage is interrupted by a boy backstage seeking an apprenticeship. Details: One Man Show to Benefit Film Festival at Arlington Friends of the Drama Organizers of the Arlington International Film Festival have announced another in a series of pre-festival public events. A Benefit Performance of Neil McGarry’s one-man show, Burbage: The Man that Made Shakespeare Famous, will be presented at Arlington Friends of the Drama on September 22nd to benefit the Festival which opens for a five-day run on October 17th at Arlington’s Regent Theatre. Neil McGarry, a professional actor trained at the National Shakespeare Conservatory, will perform the play written for him by Nick Minella…a play honoring the English actor, Richard Burbage. He will perform the play on the AFD stage (22 Academy Street) on September 22nd. McGarry is a member of Actor’s Equity Association and SAG – AFTRA and is an active supporter of the Arlington International Film Festival. He has offered his performance at AFD as a benefit to the Festival. Tickets are $15 and will be sold at the door. Richard Burbage (6 January 1568 – 13 March 1619) was an English actor and theatre owner. McGarry, who plays Burbage in the play, says of him, "… [He] created every Shakespeare lead. He first played Hamlet, he first played Othello, he first played Macbeth ... he created Richard III." Neil McGarry- Bio Neil has been a working actor for the last 30 years. He is a member of AEA (Actors Equity Association), SAG and AFTRA. Neil has lived and worked around the country but is very pleased to be home in Massachusetts and is very proud to be a member of the vibrant local professional acting community. While primarily a theatre actor, Neil’s film and television work (whether as an actor, director, co-director, producer, editor, script consultant, production assistant or stand-in) includes: Frank The Bastard, Edge Of Darkness, The Proposal, Killing Dinner, Fall Apart, The Drive-In Horror Show, The Restoration, Absent Father, Bust, Stranger, The Reader, The Able’s House Is Green, and Stuff Stephanie In The Incinerator. TV: PBS/American Experience:Alexander Hamilton (Aaron Burr), ABC TV’s All My Children, Showtime’s Brotherhood. Neil is a graduate of the National Shakespeare Conservatory. He hails from Cape Cod, is one of 10 children, loves movies, and lives in Marshfield with his amazing wife and 3 kids.
