Who was Tippecanoe (and Tyler too)? When was the first modern election? What makes an election modern? Take a ninety minute break from the politics of today, and examine modern elections through an historical lens. On Wednesday, October 17th, at 5 pm, Newbury College will host Old Sturbridge Village’s Chief Historian, Tom Kelleher, and interpreter, Jim O’Brien, to discuss the importance of the Election of 1840, widely considered the first modern American presidential election. Hear the songs, stories, and slogans of the 1840 election and participate in this fascinating discussion of the roles of media and music in modern presidential campaigns.
