In celebration of its Centennial, The Art Institute of Boston (AIB) at Lesley University is pleased to showcase the accomplishments of its students through 100 Prints Celebrating 100 Years, an exhibit of works from the Printmaking Department Archive.
The works have been selected from the vast archive of student prints made at AIB over the past 25 years, and are on view from October 1 through November 30, 2012 in the Massachusetts State Transportation Building Second Floor Atrium, 10 Park Plaza, Boston.
The exhibit is co-curated by Michael David, Chair of Fine Arts, and Liza Folman, Professor of Fine Arts at AIB.
“This collection serves as a key educational tool, allowing faculty to show students first-hand examples of printmaking techniques and printing options with a wide range of approaches to both concepts and imagery,” said David. “These prints are invaluable for instructing and inspiring new students year after year, and the quality of these works sets the standards of excellence and professionalism expected by the faculty of the students.”
“Strong drawing and design skills with a high level of technical confidence and flexibility are consistent attributes of the Fine Arts Department at AIB,” said Folman. “Regardless of the approach or medium, the imagery in this exhibit reflects our faculty’s emphasis on developing each student’s individual artistic vision.”
The Massachusetts State Transportation Building has a history of exhibiting local non-profit art organizations such as the annual Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards. It is a fitting location for this exhibit as AIB prepares to move to Porter Square in Cambridge and bid farewell to the city that has housed and inspired our students for the past 100 years.
